Learn the Numbers
Introducing math foundations early builds a foundation for future success in mathematical skills. Part of the foundations include the following: number sense (counting), representation (connecting numbers with symbols, words, pictures, and objects), and patterns. Math skills is a part of the whole picture that the child needs to develop in the early years. They are language skills, physical skills, and social skills. These skills are dependent on each other and are intertwined. The language skills are essential and so is learning about numbers and counting.
The worksheets provided will help support the development of the foundation needed to develop number sense. When working with your child through the worksheets, be sure to promote thinking skills. For example, ask those questions: How many crackers are there? Which symbol is “F-O-U-R”? Draw two circles. Show me three crayons. Count and sort toys—e.g., dolls, toys, balls, cars.
